Today we’ll be taking a deeper look and comparing the newly released XB with its well-loved predecessor, the DAF LF. Highlighting all the New Generation changes that make the DAF XB a true game-changer for the distribution industry.
The DAF XB boasts a redesigned grille that not only adds to the truck's aesthetic appeal, bringing it in line with the rest of the New Generation DAF range, but also has functional improvements over the LF; the new grille offers improved aerodynamics and cooling, enhancing the performance and efficiency of the DAF XB.
The DAF XB features a new slimmer mirror design which improves the driver's direct view from behind the wheel, making it easier to spot other road users. The XB prioritises safety through improved visibility, offering the driver greater comfort and confidence whilst out on the road.
The XB sports a new steering wheel and upholstery aligned with the rest of the New Generation DAF Range. These changes not only offer a premium feel but also ensure consistency across the range, making transitions between different models smoother for drivers familiar with the DAF brand.
The new steering wheel and stalks include all key driving controls, laid out for easy finger-tip control enabling the driver to keep their hands on the wheel and their attention on the road ahead.
The main dashboard of the XB includes a completely new, state of the art digital instrument panel with a premium look and feel.
Two separate menus are controlled from switches on the steering wheel to display information on the instrument panel: one menu for showing information while driving and another that can be used at standstill (park brake activated). To provide focus while driving, the first menu contains drive related information only and is therefore less extensive than the standstill menu.
The driver can customise the information, displayed on the instrument panel, to their own liking. Personal preferences are set in the standstill menu via the steering wheel switches.
The driver can select the styling in which the information is presented too. They can choose between a modern look or a more classic design. The designs function similarly; the difference being that the more classic design has a regular pointer for speed and engine revolutions.
The driver can also determine the level of detail of the information shown, based on his personal preference and the information needed. Four levels of information are available, ranging from only the necessary (black panel mode with solely speed indication) to all available information being visible.
All XB and XB Electric models are equipped with integraged FM DAB/DAB+ radio and audio and telephone functionalities in the digital instrument panel. Audio and telephone functions are controlled via the switches in the right-hand spoke of the steering wheel, using Bluetooth technology.
A USB connection is available in the dashboard for external devices.
Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems are now offered as standard (with an option to delete) on the DAF XB, providing further enhanced safety and driver assistance. New features include, DAF Drive-off Assist, DAF Side and Turn Assist, Driver Drowsiness Detection, Speed Limit Recognition an Event Data Recorder and more.
Finally, the DAF XB features the new electronic architecture, as present elsewhere in the New Generation DAF range. This state-of-the-art system underpins the truck’s various electronic functions, providing robust support for the advanced features and systems incorporated into the XB, future-proofing the vehicle for any upcoming technological advancements.
Importantly, all these innovative features and improvements are available for both diesel and electric XB models, ensuring that drivers and fleet owners can access the benefits regardless of their preferred powertrain.
The XB Electric is offered to suit a broader range of applications at 12-tonne, 16-tonne and 19-tonne GVW, with new high efficiency 120 kW and 190 kW motors and with a choice of battery capacity, 141 kWh, 210 kWh or 282 kWh. A large range of wheelbase options are on offer from 4.30m to 6.90m.
The XB features the latest PACCAR PX-5 and PX-7 drivelines launched in 2022 to deliver improved fuel efficiency and simplicity, offered together with the game-changing PowerLine 8-speed automatic gearbox. The PowerLine delivers a super-smooth, responsive and rewarding driving experience. Like all other DAF diesel-engine models the DAF XB can be operated on HVO (Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil) to enable an up to 90% reduction in well-to-wheel CO2 emissions.
From enhanced visibility and driver comfort, to advanced safety systems and new electronic architecture, the DAF XB is designed from the ground up to meet the demands of the modern haulier. For operators seeking a vehicle that combines style, comfort, and safety, the DAF XB is a compelling choice that sets new standards for transport and distribution.
